DIY Toilet Cleaning Tablets

Keep your toilet bowls fresh with a natural, homemade solution.

If there is one chore that my family tries to avoid, it’s cleaning the bathroom. Truthfully, I avoid it, too.

If you’re sensitive to synthetic scents and bleach (like me), you might avoid it even more. There’s nothing like being trapped in a small space with icky chemical smells.

After slowly switching to more natural cleaning products over the years, I decided it was time to find a better solution for cleaning the toilets, too.

Natural Cleaning Ingredients for the Win

There are a few simple ingredients that are SO versatile for cleaning nearly every room of the house. These include things like:

  • Vinegar
  • Baking Soda
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Castile Soap
  • Citric Acid
  • Essential oils

If you’ve made any homemade cleaners, you’ve probably used a combination of these, too.

My kids joke that we’re an “ingredient house” and not a “snack house” when it comes to our pantry; now we’re becoming an ingredient house in our cleaning cabinet, too!

Since I ditched the store-bought, headache-inducing cleaners several years ago, I’ve felt better, and saved money on SO many cleaning supplies.

It’s nice when you learn a few basic cleaning recipes and can keep stocked up on these items – because you’ll definitely find uses for them, over and over again.

How to Make DIY Toilet Cleaning Tablets

These DIY toilet cleaning tabs are crazy easy to make. You’ll wonder (like I did), why you haven’t made them sooner.

You only need three ingredients: baking soda, citric acid, castile soap, plus essential oils.

The essential oils are optional, but I like how the (natural) scent freshens up everything.

Both lavender and lemon oil have antibacterial properties. Lavender has deodorizing properties, and lemon oil has additional antimicrobial benefits.

As you can see, these plant-based cleaning agents can readily substitute for harsh synthetic chemicals, and they do the job well!

Once you make a batch of DIY toilet cleaning tablets, you’ll want to keep them stocked all the time to make toilet cleaning less of a headache — literally.
